Snoop Dogg, Sade Among Nominees for Songwriters Hall of Fame

Snoop Dogg is officially a nominee for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The institution dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of composers and lyricists who create music around the world, revealed the selection Monday (Nov. 14), when it shared its list of nominees to be voted upon for induction at its 2023 SHOF Induction & Awards Gala.

The rapper's nomination is in the performing songwriter category alongside several other music luminaries, including Sade, REM, Blondie and Gloria Estefan.

"Broadus’s prominent vocals on Dr. Dre’s 1992 solo iconic album, The Chronic, fueled his rapid ascent to stardom resulting in his debut 1993 solo album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre, being the first album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as #1 on the Popular Albums chart and Top R & B /Hip-Hop Albums charts," his Songwriters Hall of Fame biography reads.

"Featuring the singles What’s My Name and Gin and Juice, it was certified quadruple certification. Critics stated that the album proved that rappers “could reinvent themselves,” expanding rap’s vocabulary, changing hip-hop fashions and helping introduce a hip-hop genre called G-Funk to a new generation.

"Praised for his flavor-filled melodic rhyming and his use of vocabulary in keeping its effectiveness by “keeping it simple,” Broadus popularized the use of “izzle-speak,” particularly in the pop and hip-hop music industry. He has sold 35 million albums worldwide and continues to have a tremendous influence on younger generations of rappers."

The 54th annual gala will take place in New York City on June 15, 2023. If Snoop Dogg makes the cut, he will be in the company of hip-hop heavyweights. JAY-Z, Missy Elliott, Jermaine Dupri, and Pharrell are previous inductees.

Blueface Taken Into Custody in Las Vegas on Suspicion of Attempted Murder

Rapper Blueface was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Las Vegas on suspicion of attempted murder.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement that the 25-year-old, whose real name is Jonathan Porter, was taken into custody around 2:40 p.m. outside of a business in the 300 block of Hughes Center Drive.

“He will be booked into the Clark County Detention Center on warrants for attempted murder with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm at/into an occupied structure,” it read, noting that the artist was wanted in connection with an Oct. 8 shooting in the 6000 block of Windy Road.

A video of the apparent undercover operation was posted online, showing plainclothes officers taking the star into custody outside of Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles. According to TMZ, which first posted the footage, six to eight officers were involved in his arrest. The Los Angeles native's girlfriend, musician and influencer Chrisean Rock, was with him.

After rising to prominence as a meme rapper in 2018, Blueface scored a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart with a remix of his song "Thotiana" (featuring Cardi B and YG), which peaked at No. 8.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Tied for Most Career Nominations Heading Into 65th Annual Grammy Awards

When it comes to Grammy Award nominations, no duo is more prolific than music power couple — The Carters.

Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, are the most-nominated artists in Grammy history with 88 apiece.

The accomplishment was revealed on Tuesday when the nominations for the 65th annual Grammy Awards were announced.

With nine nominations to lead the field, the pop music diva tied the rapper — who received five nominations — for the honor.

If she can win at least four of the awards she is in contention for, which include album, record and song of the year, she will surpass classical conductor Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins.

Other leading nominees for the awards, which will take place on Feb. 5 at the Crypto.com center in Los Angeles, included rapper Kendrick Lamar (eight), Adele and Brandi Carlile (seven), and Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Future, DJ Khaled and producer and songwriter The-Dream, who each earned six Grammy nominations.
